Money & grill
The most reliable way to earn money is to catch, kill, and sell creatures. The final sale value can be increased by the creature’s individual weight, killscore bonuses, grilling, and a successful roulette bet. Gambling is optional and is never required to continue the story.
Final value is approximately: base sale price × individual weight multiplier × grilling multiplier × roulette multiplier × killscore multiplier. Hold an item and press F to check its current value and bonuses.
Killscore bonuses
The finishing hit determines the killscore bonuses on a creature. Actions such as turning 360 degrees, attacking while airborne, or killing without using a scope can add multipliers, and several bonuses can stack. After the creature dies, hold it and press F to view the killscore multiplier. Practise on low-value catches before trying it on an expensive creature.
Grill
The grill is unlocked on Desert Island. Catch a Blue Shark and give it to the NPC beside the grill to light it. Place a dead creature on the lit grill and it cooks automatically. Check the value with F and remove the creature near the highest multiplier, which is about 1.5×. If it stays on the grill too long, it burns and its sale value falls to zero. Keep weapons and quest items away from the grill.
Inventory slots
Buying an inventory slot lets you carry one more item without holding it in your hands. Slots are purchased in order and become more expensive each time.
| Inventory slot | Purchase cost |
|---|---|
| Satchel (slot 1) | $24 |
| Second pocket | $80 |
| Third pocket | $260 |
| Fourth pocket | $600 |
| Fifth pocket | $1400 |
Roulette
Roulette is available in the Rocks Island casino. You wager creatures or items, not cash: place the item in the betting area and choose black, red, or green. A win applies a sale-value multiplier to the item; a loss destroys the item. Black and red pay 2×, while green pays 35×. Winning on green unlocks the All in achievement, but it is the highest-risk choice. Never bet a required quest item.
Slot machine
The slot machine unlocks cosmetic skins; it does not award money. Throw either a dead drip creature (a special-skin variant) or a boss quest item into the opening above the machine. The inserted item is consumed, and the player who threw it receives a random cosmetic skin. Hand in a required boss item before using later copies in the machine. There is one machine on the Lighthouse beach and another in the Rocks Island casino.
Practical ways to earn money
- Lighthouse: use the Crab-Fishing Rod with no bait for Brown Crab and Shrimp, or equip a $1 Hot Dog for Rock Crab and Lobster.
- Forest and later islands: dynamite near the water can kill several creatures quickly. Collect the bodies and sell them.
- Desert: Beginner Boss Lure catches either a Sunfish or The Old Pike. After unlocking the grill, cook the catch before selling it.
- Rocks: Tuna has a base sale price of $2,000. Professional Boss Lure catches Tuna, but complete the Albatross quest before selling extra Tuna for money.
